This is a great statement by Arnold H. Glasgow. He is teaching us  alife lesson in this quote right here. If you write down goals and then prsuit them. Then it is like a goalposts because you the way you should be going too and want to score/ achive it. This quote is also saying that if you dont know what to do with life you arnt going to go anywhere. But once you know where you're going to go, you will know where to stand. Like for example if i already know what to do with my life , and i actually do know what ima do with my life. What ima do with my life is to be phsical trainer and that similar to it being a goalpost because in football they alone have one goal and that is too score. SO you always want to have a goal in the back of your brian to prusit it. And thats why this quote is a life lesson quote.
